The information given in library catalogues and the ed. Venezia 1576 suggests Dôle as the place of origin for J., in which case ‘Bolani’ in TUI 1584 is a misprint for ‘Dolani’. His De restitutione in integrum (TUI 1584 t. 5), his only known work, was first published in Lyon in 1538. The only edition online (Venezia 1576) describes him as formerly a counselor of the Holy Roman Emperor, his ‘magister libellorum’, and his ambassador to the king of France, none of which we need to believe, but none of which we have any reason to doubt. |
