Biography/Description |
Ricardus studied law at Bologna and became a professor of civil law at Naples around 1270. From 1290, Ricardus pursued an ecclesiastical career. He became Vice-Chancellor of the Church in 1296. He was made a cardinal by Boniface VIII. With Guillielmus de Mandagout and Berengarius Fredoli, Ricardus wan editor of the Liber Sextus. He served in the pontifical court in Avignon. At the Council of Vienne, Ricardus defended Boniface’s orthodoxy against the charges of Philip IV of France. |
